The American Cancer Society (ACS) works to improve the lives of people with cancer through research, advocacy and patient support. And, through its partnership with the Mazda Foundation, ACS is expanding access to high quality training for the next generation of oncology professionals. As cancer rates continue to rise and many experienced clinicians and researchers approach retirement, the need for new talent has never been greater. ACS’ Center for Innovation in Cancer Research Training is helping meet that need by preparing a diverse group of aspiring scientists and healthcare professionals, especially those from underserved or underrepresented communities. With strategic investment, including funding for a 2025-2027 biomedical research internship program at the University of California, Irvine, students gain 10 weeks of hands-on experience in cancer research labs, clinical environments, or community settings across the U.S., supported by mentorship, career development and exposure to the real-world practice of cancer research and care
