AVID

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nonprofit organization that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID trains 85,000 educators annually so they can prepare all students for college, careers, and life. More than 7,500 schools rely on AVID to transform the lives of more than 2 million students each year. The Mazda Foundation’s funding established AVID in four schools in the Madison City, Alabama school district. In 2021, AVID started their ongoing training program for dozens of teachers, and they enrolled students in the AVID elective course in all four schools. The program will continue to support teachers and students throughout 2022.

College Track aims to equip students confronting systemic barriers to earn a bachelor’s degree in pursuit of a life of opportunity, choice, and power. At the core of College Track’s program model is the 10-year commitment they make to each student, from ninth grade through college graduation. Bracken’s Kitchen

Bracken’s Kitchen, in Garden Grove, CA, is committed to rescuing, repurposing and restoring both food and lives through food rescue, culinary training, and community feeding. The Mazda Foundation’s funding supports Bracken’s Kitchen’s Culinary Training Program, which provides at-risk young adults the introductory skills needed for employment in a professional kitchen. FUSE is a STEAM education program housed within Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy that facilitates student exploration and learning through hands-on, interest-driven challenges inspired by real-world STEAM and design practices. The Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation seeks to provide educators with competition, education, and workforce readiness programs to increase student engagement in science, technology, engineering, math, and computer science.
