As an affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County collects food and distributes it to more than 385 local member charities. These non-profit agencies include senior centers, rehabilitation centers, shelters, church pantries, homes for abused children and many other emergency assistance organizations. With 22 years of experience, Second Harvest is able to use 94.2 cents of every dollar to feed the hungry.
The Mazda Foundation’s funding specifically helps Second Harvest’s Brown Bag Program, designed to help alleviate hunger and malnutrition among the elderly; Kid’s Café, a program designed to curb the effects of malnutrition experienced by children living in poverty; and "Operation Gobble", a holiday project created to provide traditional holiday meals for those who would otherwise go without. In conjunction with "Operation Gobble", Mazda’s Irvine headquarters’ employees held a food drive which collected 660 pounds of food and staple goods which translated into approximately 1,320 meals for those in need.
