For 20 years, Mazda has been promoting cross-cultural relations between the US and Japan through its contributions to Youth For Understanding. Mazda scholarship funding provides an opportunity for 10 high-school aged students to spend six-weeks in Japan each summer. During this time, students live with a Japanese host family, learn to speak and write Japanese, and immerse themselves in daily life. Scholars also visit Mazda's international corporate headquarters in Hiroshima.
