MAZDA PARTNERS WITH NATIONAL INDIAN ORGANIZATION
BILLINGS, MT-----The Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc., announced a $25,000.00 grant to the In-Care Network, Inc., a national American Indian therapeutic foster care organization headquartered in Billings, Montana. In-Care works with sexually, physically, emotionally and mentally abused and neglected American Indian children and youth.
In-Care Executive Director William F. Snell, Jr., an Assiniboine/Crow, said, "The Mazda Foundation grant will fund the development of a culturally-based training curriculum that will be available in the United States. It is extraordinary when a multinational corporation links with an urban American Indian organization to work collectively at answering the call of meeting social necessity."
Mazda Foundation is based in Washington, D.C., and supports cross-cultural understanding and the promotion of social well-being. "This is the first grant to a Montana-based American Indian organization. We were impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm In-Care staff have for their programs," said Barbara Nocera, Program Director for Mazda Foundation. "Our site visit to Montana to review In-Care programs provided a unique opportunity to determine where our grant money is needed to have the biggest impact in the lives of Native American youth." Nocera continued by saying, "This culturally appropriate training project will benefit thousands of American Indian children-the descendents of the America's Indigenous tribes."
The In-Care Network, Inc., works closely with the Office of U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D), MT, the ranking member on the International Trade Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee. "In-Care let's me know what programs are needed to meet federal legislative requirements. This cultural training curricula complements the intent of the Adoption and Safe Families Act," said Senator Baucus.
Montana is home to seven American Indian tribes and 11 bands of American Indians. "When Mazda Foundation steps up to the plate, it gets people's attention, and this national In-Care project received an excellent boost with the Mazda Foundation grant," said U.S. Senator Baucus. "The legislation requires every state to accelerate placement of foster children into permanent homes, we have stepped forward to ensure training of providers includes the cultural component that is vital to retaining the traditions and history of American Indians," said Bill Snell.
